Feature junkies and rumor mongers may have at least feigned suspense over whether Apple’s newest iPhone would include an NFC chip. But to no one’s particular surprise, yesterday’s demo included no mention of “near-field communication,” which has become a central part of the discussion around how phones will become the new way we pay at the checkout counter.
But no NFC doesn’t mean Apple has abandoned paying with your phone. In fact, the iPhone 5 could do more to make mobile payments commonplace than any other phone or app yet.
